Red, Hot Teddy. He was tall, dark, and red.
I caught a glimpse of him as I strolled by Nello. I thought to myself, “Madame, now there’s a fine date.” He looked to be an excellent listener with a healthy appetite and just so darn cute.
I think Madame thought she might have found the perfect companion for me given she had taken mine away from me so often with her entertainment whirl. She didn’t want me to be left behind or feel alone.
The very next day, I made a reservation at Nello for an early dinner — a table for one at this elegant, yet welcoming, restaurant. The staff greeted me warmly and showed me to my table — my companion was waiting for me.
We faced the street looking out — I believe I was the first one in that night — I like to eat early, and so does Red, Hot Teddy. I think he would meet me any time of the day or night actually. Super accommodating that fellow.
We looked out together and waved as people passed us by. As people walked into the restaurant they admired me and my date. I almost could hear someone say, “What a good listener. And I bet he doesn’t care how much pasta she eats tonight.” They were right, of course. They should be jealous.
We dined. We confided to one another. We laughed. We delighted in ourselves and also delighted others. We had fun! We had whimsy! We had one night to cherish — although Red, Hot Teddy would have me back anytime.
